8-Week Evangelism Challenge

8-Week Evangelism Challenge

A Guided Journey to Sharing Your Faith

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." β€” Matthew 28:19-20

Stepping Stones

Welcome to the Challenge

Thank you for starting the Evangelism Challenge! Over the next 8 weeks, you will grow in confidence and practice in sharing your faith with others.

How This Challenge Works:

  • Daily Goals β€” Complete one task each day to build spiritual disciplines and prepare your heart

  • Weekly Goals β€” One larger goal per week that involves stepping out in faith

The first couple of weeks will focus on personal development. It is recommended to record your answers and anything you learn along the way in a separate journal.

Important Note: This challenge is designed to be a gradual and curated process, but the leading of the Spirit takes precedence. It's about practice and directing our attention to evangelism, not formulas.

Tips for Success:

  • Stay "prayed up" and full of the Word β€” evangelism is most effective this way

  • Keep a journal to record your thoughts, experiences, and growth

  • Don't be discouraged by setbacks β€” this is a learning process

  • Remember: it's the Spirit's work ultimately, but we can do our part

Week 1
Foundation & Heart Preparation

Weekly Goal

Accountability can help us stay motivated! Tell someone about this challenge if you are comfortable doing so. Otherwise, ask for an unspoken prayer need.

Daily Goals

Day1

Write down these questions and your answers: 1. What makes someone a Christian? 2. When did you become one? 3. How would you rate yourself in the ministry of evangelism (1-10)?

Day2

Meditation: Do you have a burden for sharing the Good News? Ask God to search your heart about this and be open to His leading.

Day3

If you have not already, make time daily for Bible reading and prayer.

Day4

Pray using the ACTS formula β€” Acclaim (praise God for who He is), Confession, Thanks, Supplication (requests). These elements can be found in the Lord's prayer.

Day5

Read Psalm 51 with a focus on verses 12 and 13. Repent of any known sin or neglectfulness and receive the joy of the Lord.

Insight

It's when we experience God's forgiveness and grace that we are moved to share it.

Day6

Pray for a stronger concern for the lost and a desire to see the lost saved.

Day7

Study the great commission (Matthew 28:16-20).

Week 2
Understanding the Gospel

Weekly Goal

Reflect on a conversation (from the past day, week, year) or relationship and how you might have been a better witness for Christ. Do this each day this week.

Daily Goals

Day8

See the 7-day goal (under This Week) and start today.

Day9

Read and consider the "Romans Road" (cf. Romans 3:10,23 & 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-10,13; 5:1-2 & 8:1).

Scripture References

Romans 3:10, 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-10, 10:13, 5:1-2, 8:1

Day10

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The purpose of man. Why did God put us here?

Day11

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The consequences of sin.

Day12

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The mercy of God.

Day13

Set at least 5 minutes aside to pray for excitement about sharing the gospel.

Day14

Forgive those that have wronged you. Understanding mercy and grace is essential.

Week 3
Articulating Your Faith

Weekly Goal

Leave your hand-written gospel tract somewhere in public.

Daily Goals

Day15

Write out the gospel in your own words on a piece of paper or index card. Use this for the weekly goal.

Day16

Study the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23).

Day17

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: What are the reasons you haven't shared in the past?

Day18

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: How you can overcome these obstacles.

Day19

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Replacing negative thinking with positive thinking. What are the positive outcomes of sharing the gospel whether they receive it or not?

Day20

Pray for divine appointments (opportunities to share) and the ability to recognize them.

Day21

Memorize a verse from the list below.

Choose One to Memorize

Matthew 28:16-20, Colossians 4:2-3, Colossians 4:5-6, 1 Thessalonians 2:2, 1 Thessalonians 2:4, 1 Thessalonians 2:9-10, 2 Corinthians 5:20, 2 Corinthians 6:1, 2 Corinthians 6:3, 2 Timothy 1:7, 2 Timothy 4:2, 2 Timothy 4:5, Romans 1:16, 1 Peter 3:15, John 12:32, 1 Corinthians 9:16, Jeremiah 20:9, Acts 4:18-20, Matthew 25:25-27, Mark 5:19

Week 4
Sharing Your Story

Weekly Goal

Speak about God in public. For example, say a word of praise, prayer before a meal, or simply saying 'God is good', or mention how amazing creation is.

Daily Goals

Day22

Write down a list of all the unbelievers you know.

Day23

Pick one unbeliever in your life and set aside 5 minutes to pray for them.

Day24

Pray for an unbeliever in your life for 5 minutes.

Day25

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Set your mind on things above. What is our position in Christ? What is our eternal destiny?

Day26

Share a Bible verse with someone or on social media.

Day27

Write your testimony.

Day28

Share your testimony with someone you know or share the one you wrote publicly on social media.

Milestone Reached!

Congratulations! Having shared your testimony publicly, you are officially an evangelist! There is more to becoming a confident evangelist, but it's truly as simple as that.

Week 5
Building Confidence

Weekly Goal

Practice directing a conversation toward spiritual things with someone.

Tip

You can subtly mention biblical truths without being confrontational or overly direct. This also allows you to discern where the other person is spiritually. Are they curious, seeking, resistant, or just disinterested?

Daily Goals

Day29

Select 5 news headlines and consider how you might direct a conversation about them to spiritual things.

Day30

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20).

Day31

Think of a tough question you would be worried about getting asked. Find a good answer for it.

Day32

Preach the gospel to yourself by starting with a problem* and providing a solution. Do this aloud to help build confidence. *Examples: death, suffering, hell, separation from God, global conflict, etc.

Day33

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Being humble. Part of that is accepting and admitting that you don't have all the answers. If you're worried about apologetics, you can always tell someone that you will get back with them, or to look up an apologist online for a better answer.

Day34

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Expecting the world to dislike you (Matthew 5:11, 10:25, 1 Peter 4:14).

Day35

Tell someone you will pray for them. This is most natural after they have shared a problem they are dealing with.

Week 6
Engaging Others

Weekly Goal

Invite someone to your church.

Daily Goals

Day36

Decide to look for opportunities to share God's word and the gospel in your interactions today.

Day37

Ask someone what they think about a Bible verse.

Day38

Ask someone what the most important thing in their life is. They may ask you in return, which is an open door to share the gospel. Tell them even if they don't ask you.

Day39

Bring up the kingdom of God in conversation. For example, people often have complaints or legitimate issues that they worry about. You can say something like "One day, we won't have (fill in the blank - war, pain, sorrow, etc)..."

Day40

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The command to the ex-demoniac (Mark 5:18-20).

Day41

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Your particular gifts, personality, circumstances, and testimony and how God might use you for His kingdom work.

Day42

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: There are many aspects to the gospel (death/life, poverty/treasure, slavery to sin/freedom, vanity/purpose, being lost/found, condemned/forgiven, etc.). Write a short gospel tract with one of these aspects in mind and hand it out.

Encouragement

Hopefully this demonstrates that being an evangelist doesn't mean cornering someone, explaining the 4 spiritual laws, and asking if they will ask Jesus into their heart. These sometimes simple things can lead to open doors for deeper conversation.

Week 7
Stepping Out in Faith

Weekly Goal

Have someone take the "Are you a good person?" test (youtube.com/watch?v=TCSUKIhjevo).

Daily Goals

Day43

Place a tract in a public place.

Day44

Hand a tract to someone you don't know.

Day45

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Confronting the fear of being rejected.

Day46

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: Confronting the lack of faith that the gospel may be received.

Day47

Meditate on or study for at least 5 minutes: The state of the unbeliever (Ephesians 4:17-19).

Day48

Decide on one person to commit to focusing on for the gospel. Through prayer and conversation. It is the Spirit's work ultimately, but we can do our part.

Day49

Tell a friend why you thank God for them.

Week 8
Living as an Evangelist

Weekly Goal β€” Choose One

  1. Share your testimony with an unbeliever, giving glory to God.

  2. Talk about God with an unbelieving friend or acquaintance. If you're not sure how, ask them what they think about the Bible, the afterlife, or the soul.

  3. Ask someone if they've ever had the gospel explained to them. If they're open to it, do it.

  4. Ask a stranger if they wouldn't mind answering a few questions. Ask them a few questions about the Bible, then ask if they know Jesus.

Daily Goals

Day50

Wear or buy a Christian t-shirt.

Day51

Commit to thanking God aloud before meals that you eat in public.

Day52

Watch a Living Waters video on YouTube of Ray Comfort sharing the gospel. Identify 1-3 things you like about his approach.

Day53

Memorize another verse from the list provided in Week 3.

Day54

Consider using 'church language' in public and what that might look like. E.g. Saying "I'm blessed that...", or "Amen" to something you agree with, "Hallelujah", "Praise God", etc.

Day55

Study Ephesians 4:11-12.

Day56

Reflect on what you've learned over the last 8 weeks and how you can apply it to grow in your walk with the Lord and win souls for Him. Reflect on your answers from day 1. How would you rate yourself in the ministry of evangelism (1-10)?

You've completed the 8-Week Evangelism Challenge

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes."
β€” Romans 1:16

Continue to grow in boldness and love as you share the Good News. Remember, it's the Spirit's work β€” we simply plant and water the seeds.
