mirror

That which reflects the face of the beholder. Creates an inverted or even warped image of reality, but necessary for self-perception. i.e. the turning of awareness back onto the viewer.

A key component to vanity. Mirrors dedicated to this are called a vanity.

Associated with femininity and the art of face painting/makeup.

Also associated with magic -- magic mirror, black mirror, fortunetelling and divination (often using mirrors or mirrored surfaces of water and other liquids).
