Postmodernism
Postmodernism encompasses a variety of artistic, cultural, and philosophical movements that claim to mark a break from modernism. They have in common the conviction that it is no longer possible to rely upon previous ways of depicting the world. Deconstruction of meaning leads to the idea that we can never truly communicate. There is no way to convey a subjective idea through the medium of language, which lacks inherent meaning.
Post-modern art became overly abstract (meaningless), often and at times intentionally ugly, and lacking in traditional artistic skill.
