Materialism
The belief that the material world is all there is. It is a departure from more archaic views of reality which depended on spiritual explanations for natural phenomena. The idea is that that everything within the universe can be explained by natural causes.
Whereas Empiricism means that the material world is all we can know, Materialism posits that the material world is all that there is.
